It also boosts hiring for vital health care jobs during the public health crisis and speeds the development of a vaccine, treatments, and faster diagnostic tests. Safety Net Programs The CARES Act included a second wave of funding for major food security programs. This includes $8.8 billion in child nutrition funding to give schools more flexibility to provide meals for students. In addition, $15 billion in funding was provided for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) to help cover the expected cost of new applications to the program. In addition, the bill allocated $450 million additional dollars for food banks and other community food distribution programs.
