• Medicine and Supplies: $16 billion is allocated to the Strategic National Stockpile to increase the availability of equipment, including ventilators and masks. It also boosts hiring for vital health care jobs during the public health crisis and speeds the development of a vaccine, treatments, and faster diagnostic tests. Safety Net Programs The CARES Act included a second wave of funding for major food security programs. This includes $8.8 billion in child nutrition funding to give schools more flexibility to provide meals for students. In addition, $15 billion in funding was provided for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) to help cover the expected cost of new applications to the program. In addition, the bill allocated $450 million additional dollars for food banks and other community food distribution programs.
